Some 10,000 Boston marathon runners gathered Sunday afternoon at City Hall Plaza to load up on carbs—5,000 pounds of them, to be exact. Hosted by the Boston Athletic Association, the gigantic pasta party was serviced by The Catered Affair and had a menu of Mediterranean gemelli pasta, rigatoni Provencal with tomato-basil sauce, and three-cheese baked penne with chicken sausage. To accommodate the crowd, the catering team had to perform a marathon of sorts itself. According to Elaine Twombly, the Catered Affair's director of business development, "serving over 5,000 pounds of pasta to 10,000 people in four hours meant that, between our team of 90-plus people and volunteers, we served 41 guests per minute."
