Call Sheet #461: Boycott of Boy Scout Jamboree, 3-D Fashion, Kids at Trade Shows

Call Sheet readers,

Some internal BizBash news: After more than 12 years here, I'm leaving my position as editor in chief. I'll stay on as an editor at large, contributing here and there, but not working at BizBash full time.

Our news editor, Anna Sekula—who has been here for nine years—has been named executive editor, and she will run our editorial operations after March 15.

Helping to launch and build BizBash has been a blast, largely because of the talented people I have worked with, written about, and written for. You'll continue to inspire me as I take off to try some new things. Thanks for reading, and keep in touch.

—Chad Kaydo, editor in chief, BizBash

1. DON'T CALL ME, MAYBE: Pop singer Carly Rae Jepsen canceled a July concert at the annual Boy Scouts of America Jamboree in West Virginia. Washington Post: "The gay-rights group GLAAD called for entertainers to boycott the event. The band Train, though, said it will stay on the roster for now while hoping the Scouts reconsider the policy." http://wapo.st/14pQTb9

2. 3-D FASHION ICON: Proving its relevance in the events world, 3-D printing is popping up as an activity and now on the red carpet. Dita Von Teese wore a 3-D-printed dress at an event at New York's Ace Hotel Monday. Designed on an iPad, the black gown decorated with 13,000 black Swarovski crystals was brought to life by 3-D-printing design studio Shapeways. Mashable: "The dress will go on tour and be displayed first at Swarovski and then in museums." http://on.mash.to/WKVZeU

3. TRADE SHOW TOT: What's it like to take an 8 year old to a trade show? One father took his son to scout products at the International Home and Housewares Show in Chicago. New York Times: "The show offers its own brand of amusement, especially when you’re not a salesman or a buyer desperately trying to find an awesome smoothie maker or the world’s next Snuggie." http://nyti.ms/YCdrF8
