Joining Boston's new crop of gastropubs and craft cocktail outlets is the long awaited Stoddard's Fine Food and Ale, which officially opened this past week on Temple Place in Downtown Crossing, offering a casual option for dinner parties and cocktail receptions.
Stoddard's is set in an 1868 building newly outfitted with antique Boston street lamps and a 100-year-old oak-and-mahogany bar imported from England, while exposed beams, bricks, and hardwood floors round out the upscale pub vibe. In addition to 100 beers on tap, the venue's vintage-clad bartenders pour absinthe-spiked cocktails to go with hearty comfort food offerings like aged gouda and cask ale pudding.
The main dining room/bar space is available for events and holds 140 guests. One level down, Stoddard's will soon debut a swankier, members-only club with low-slung leather seating, and a laid-back, lounge-y atmosphere. The room holds 100 and companies that wish to host an event in the space can either become members or purchase a temporary membership.
