Want to take a group outdoors? Here are two ideas for daylong corporate outings.
1. The New England Outdoor Center gives groups a chance to try a variety of water activities such as kayaking or whitewater rafting. About five hours away from Boston in Millinocket, Maine, the N.E.O.C. can customize tours and activities for beginners and advanced paddlers. Luxury pontoon boats are available for “champagne and shrimp cocktail” tours of the Penobscot River for groups of eight to 100. Prices range from $50 for two hours to $600 for a full day. If you’d rather stay on land, the center offers moose safaris and wildlife tours with a registered Maine guide.
2. Adventure Chatham, just two miles outside of Boston, offers groups a chance to try a new sport: stand-up paddleboarding. Beginner excursions, such as paddling down Oyster River or learning the basics on Pleasant Bay, last two to four hours. A tour combined with kayaking is recommended for less experienced participants. With 12 paddleboards and eight kayaks for rent, Adventure Chatham is equipped for small groups but can accommodate larger groups with advance notice. Full-day paddleboard and kayak rentals run $50 to $80, or for $150 per person, groups can purchase the Ultimate Excursion Package, which includes packed coolers filled with sandwiches from the Corner Store.
