Deuxave had its soft opening last week at the corner of Massachusetts and Commonwealth Avenues, where it offers eclectic fare and two semiprivate dining areas.
The restaurant, from Brian Piccini and chef Christopher Coombs of Dbar, is 2,200 square feet of completely renovated dining space with an equal-sized kitchen downstairs. Vacant for more than three years, the space was formerly home to a Back Bay outpost of the Charles Street eatery Panificio. The 98-seat dining room has a patio with seating for 35, a full mirror-backed bar, black subway tile details, and a fireplace surrounded by exposed stone. Near the bar is a lounge area with cocktail tables and seating along large bay windows overlooking the Commonwealth Avenue patio.
Wine is a mainstay not only on the menu but in the decor as well; glass wine-storage areas serve as visual focal points in the dining room.
Two 18-seat semiprivate dining areas along the back wall will be sectioned off with sheer, floor-length fabric. The entire restaurant is also available for buyouts.
Deuxave’s menu includes American and French fare with heavy international influence. Think Persian-spiced Long Island duck breast, seared local diver scallops, and crispy Crescent Farms duck confit. Also expect to see a five-course chef’s tasting menu soon.
