Tribune Says Bankruptcy Will Not Hurt Affiliated Events in 2009

This week has not been kind to Chicago, but amidst the political scandals and bankruptcy reports, there is some good news for some event professionals. In spite of a company-wide gag order, the Tribune Company, which filed for Chapter 11 protection on Monday, released this statement to BizBash this morning: "The Tribune restructuring will not have any impact on our 2009 events and sponsorship plans," said director of revenue development Kathy Manilla. "We expect this to be an area of growth for us and we are excited about the event opportunities in Chicago for all of our Tribune media outlets."

The Tribune Company, which comprises The Chicago Tribune, Chicago magazine, and Metromix, has played a major role in Chicago events, including the annual Magnificent Mile Art Festival, the Printer’s Row Book Fair, and Fashion Focus.
