THIS WEEKEND'S CALENDAR:
FRIDAY: Race to Erase MS Gala in Los Angeles, California Science Center Discovery Ball in Los Angeleswwe
SATURDAY: The Preakness Stakes in Baltimore
SUNDAY: Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, NATO Summit in Chicago (through Monday)

* INCOMING *

1. NATO SECURITY: Chicago police will be working 12-hour shifts this weekend during the NATO summit to keep the peace with an expected 15,000 protesters. Superintendent Garry McCarthy said that large events held previously in Chicago, including Lollapalooza and Occupy protests, have prepared the police force for the weekend, and that smaller protests this week have been handled successfully. 2. FACEBOOK STRATEGY: Should brands with multiple locations have more than one brand page? Mashable: "If a restaurant chain prides itself on local ingredients or a business seeks to cultivate a strong community around each brick-and-mortar outlet, it might make sense to have a Brand Page for each location. But then again, does a brand really want to divvy up its audience and dilute it among several similar pages?" Here's a look at the paths taken by brands such as Lululemon and Whole Foods: http://bit.ly/b84MYS

3. SAY NO TO COMMISSIONS? Designer Preston Bailey takes on the vendor commission system in his latest blog post, calling them a "greedy" and "old school" way of doing business: "The only way to stop commissions is to educate clients; they must get vendors to commit in writing that they are not receiving any commissions behind their clients’ backs." http://bit.ly/J2p9Au

4. PINTEREST SCAMS: The popularity of the social networking site has inevitably led to scams. The New York Times: "[Software tool kits] help scammers make money through several well-worn methods: by exploiting online-marketing referral programs, sending calls to expensive ‘premium’ phone numbers and getting people to complete intrusive marketer surveys." The site advises users to "refrain from clicking on any promotional content (advertising is not allowed on Pinterest), avoid accounts with pins that do not link to relevant content, and use strong passwords and keep them close." http://nyti.ms/Kuf2Iv

5. DO NOT TRACK: Twitter will add the cookie-blocking feature in Mozilla's Firefox browser, which will prevent custom advertisements based on a user's behavior or location. Mashable: "Those customized ads are an important moneymaker for social networks such as Facebook and Twitter." http://on.mash.to/JOx2KB

* MOMENT OF TED *

From the desk of editor at large Ted Kruckel, reporting on New York's biggest annual benefit: "I guess my takeaway from the whole Robin Hood Foundation experience, as impressive and honorable as I truly believe that it is, was not what a huge achievement this Wall Street-fueled fund-raiser is, but why is there only one?"

* ABOUT LAST NIGHT: UPFRONT WEEK, DAY 4 *

On the final day of Upfront Week, USA Network drew the most buzz, largely from more than 100 fans invited by the cable brand to tweet from the arrivals area outside Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center. The event's hashtag, #USAUpfront, trended on Twitter, as did the announcement made via the social platform that USA would add a third hour to its WWE Raw program. The show itself was similar to the effort made last year, with stars from shows as presenters. Mark Ronson composed the opening score for the event and closed out the formal proceedings with a live performance alongside Erykah Badu.
