1. WALL STREET’S BIG PARTIES: Slashed bonuses and layoffs haven't stopped top earners from buying fancy cars and expensive real estate or, throwing elaborate parties. New York Daily News: "Arthur Backal, a go-to event planner for New York's elite who was recently featured on ‘Real Housewives of New York City,’ derives about one quarter of his business from Wall Street clientele. His customers are still throwing lavish parties, but they have been minding expenses with care lately."

2. 2012 MARKETING PLANS: Crain Communications: "According to the Ad-ology 2012 Small Business Marketing Forecast, one in five small businesses plan to invest more resources in mobile applications and advertising in 2012. As a result of their own experience with smartphones, the companies see mobile as a way to deliver a new ad message quickly. This is in stark contrast to 2009, when only two percent of small businesses surveyed planned increased resources for mobile."

3. C.M.A. RESIGNATION: The Country Music Association announced that Bobette Dudley resigned as senior vice president. In her 25 years there, she oversaw the relocation of the C.M.A. Music Festival from the Tennessee State Fairgrounds to downtown Nashville, and the launch of C.M.A.'s TV venture "CMA Country Christmas" in 2010. 4. DIOR GOES TO CHINA: The French brand opened its new 8,611-square-foot flagship store in Beijing Thursday. A dinner was held inside a giant tent with dozens of tables set with candelabra, pussy willows, and white and pink roses. The opening also included a runway show of the  spring collection. WWD:

Eventbrite launched its free mobile app Sunday, its first product dedicated entirely to event attendees. Users can access and share event details, pull up mobile tickets, and contact the event organizer.

BOSTON: The Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum has assigned Bruce Richardson to the rather specialized official tea master position. In his role, Richardson will design a high-end gift set of teas. The restored and expanded museum is set to open in June.

Business Journal: "Delaware North, TD Garden’s owner, intends to sell its permits for a 37-story residential tower in the West End...a source familiar with the deal, which is expected to close [in] days, told the Business Journal Delaware North will use the proceeds of the sale to help fund...a pair of 400-foot towers with 1 million square feet of apartments, office space, a hotel, and ground-floor retail on the site of the former Boston Garden." CHICAGO: The Odyssey ship will host its Engagement gala January 21. The complimentary event is a vendor showcase that lets brides-to-be check out flowers, cakes, and photography from local companies.

Inspired by old-school dining clubs, Tortise Club is slated to open in River North this spring. Signature menu items include Maine lobster role, Dover sole, and steak tartare. Private dining will be available, with details released next year.

LAS VEGAS: The Miss Nevada U.S.A. pageant organization announced model Shanna Moakler and radio personality Chet Buchannan as co-hosts of this year's competition. The pageant will be held at the Pearl in the Palms Casino Resort January 29 and will include a live webcast, celebrity panel of judges, and an interactive iPod application.    

On Monday, the Consumer Electronics Association announced the adoption of new sustainability practices for the Consumer Electronics Show, January 10-13.

On December 28, the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas will debut what it bills as the first pop-up wedding chapel overlooking Las Vegas Boulevard. Packages include champagne poppers and novelty rings dispensed from a gumball machine. The chapel’s retail space includes items such as wedding bands, faux wedding announcements, apparel, and booze. There's also a photo booth that posts pictures to Facebook and Twitter.

Fremont Street Experience will celebrate the first night of Hanukkah tonight with the lighting of a giant menorah by Mayor Carolyn Goodman. The ceremony will be led by Rabbi Shea Harlig, Chabad of Southern Nevada director.

LOS ANGELES: Demi Lovato will perform at the People's Choice Awards at the Nokia Theatre January 11. The show will be broadcast live on CBS.

MIAMI/SOUTH FLORIDA: Jungle Island celebrates its 75th anniversary today with music, giveaways, and all of the park's signature shows and attractions. Edda's Cake Designs will unveil their custom cake creation in honor of the event.

The Miami Art Museum opens an exhibition January 15 on artist Dana Schutz, entitled "If the Face Had Wheels." A preview and artist talk will be held January 14 and the exhibit will run through February 26.

The Roosevelt Room is closing its doors, hosting its official closing party on New Year's Eve. The large supper club opened in November of 2009. The building will be demolished to make way for a new condominium.

WASHINGTON: Continuing through December 28, the Synetic Family theater in Arlington will perform the "Rough-Faced Girl," a Native American Cinderella tale.
