Long a spot for fancy dining in New York, the
elegant Il Mulino opened an outpost in the nation’s capital in February—the
latest of several city expansions, including recent openings in Miami, Las
Vegas, and Chicago. Located three blocks from the White House, the
6,000-square-foot Il Mulino has already entertained the likes of Larry King,
AOL co-founder Jim Kimsey, and U.S. Attorney General (for now, at least)
Alberto Gonzales.
The 20-seat venue features Old World decor, mixing wrought-iron chandeliers and robust tapestries with earth-toned walls and dark wood floors. The menu remains the same: Rustic cuisine drawing upon Italy’s Abruzzi region is served alongside wines from Piedmont and Tuscany. A private room for 75 is on-site.
