Movies like Gidget and Beach Blanket Bingo were filmed on the sands outside the Paradise Cove Beach Café. Tables and chairs sit right in the sand, covered by thatched umbrellas.

The Polynesian-themed Spa Tiki offers groups the use of a private lounge called the Hula Hut. The bamboo hut, which has the cozy feel of an island home, has four custom tiki couches, a private shower, and a wet bar.

Often used for a palm-lined South Pacific backdrop for old Hollywood movies, the Beachcomber Café at Crystal Cove still retains its 1930s beach-resort vibe with a tiki bar and deck and a wood-paneled café.The beachside Duke’s Malibu pays homage to surfer legend Duke Kahanamoku, with picture windows overlooking the ocean and surfer memorabilia throughout. The Barefoot Bar is right on the sand with thatched umbrellas.

The Bali Hai was the first tiki temple erected on Shelter Island and inspired several others; now Shelter Island is considered a tiki district of sorts. The iconic circular building sits right on the San Diego Bay, with a private boat dock. Tiki artifacts are strewn throughout, and there are great bay views from the dining rooms.
