TV and Mag Parties Preview New WeHo Spaces

Revelers got a sneak peek at a couple of likely new Hollywood hotspots at recent events. More than 600 of Showtime’s guests got a preview of the soon-to-open Sunset Beach in West Hollywood after a premiere screening of its new crime series, Dexter, at the Directors Guild on September 19. (Blackburst Productions was the screening’s technical producer.) The show’s killer cop patrols Miami Beach, so the cable network’s director of special events, Brad Setting, and event producer Wendy Creed opted for the beachy new restaurant/lounge on Sunset Boulevard for their postparty. Working with the restaurant’s director of special events, Alfonzo Luna, the party crew cleared the 8,000-square-foot ground floor to create plenty of room to schmooze. Sandboxes with shells and votive candles decorated low tables lining the banquettes along the perimeter. Guests grazed from a buffet of pot roast, herb chicken, and salads.

Us Weekly also did some nifty matchmaking for its β€œHot Hollywood: Fresh 15” party on September 21. The celeb mag showcased its selection of young stars, like Christina Aguilera, at Area, the latest venture of L.A. nightlife impresarios Brent Bolthouse and Sam Nazarian, which officially opened on September 28. The sumptuous living room space on La Cienega inspired by mid-century modern style needed only bunches of white orchids scattered around the bar areas and on tables to perk it up for the party. DJ Samantha Ronson spun an eclectic mix of music while celebs scarfed up freebies at an adjacent swag tent stocked by the Lisa Kline Boutique, Fresh Look contacts, Skechers, Max Factor, and Cesare Paciotti shoes. Us Weekly event marketing director Ami Goldwasser and senior event marketing manager Gina Schramm oversaw the event. BNC handled the PR.
