The Miami Art Museum has chosen Pierre de Meuron and Jacques Herzog of Herzog & de Meuron to design the museum's new building, to open in Museum Park (formerly Bicentennial Park) in 2010. The Switzerland-based firm works on projects worldwide and has several museum projects under its belt, including the Tate Modern in London and the de Young Museum in San Francisco. The firm will be responsible for the facility on the north side of Museum Park overlooking Biscayne Bay. It will include 32,000 square feet of galleries for the permanent collection and special exhibitions; an educational complex with library, auditorium, classrooms, and workshop space; and amenities such as a cafΓ© and store. Plans also include an outdoor sculpture garden.
