Eighteen stories above the hustle and bustle of Art Basel Miami Beach, Surface magazine created the Surface Lounge atop the Gansevoort South Hotel. The hotel's 26,000-square-foot rooftop pool deck hosted members of the media, artists, and V.I.P.s from December 4 to 6, giving them the opportunity to escape what some would call chaos on the streets of Miami Beach.

Offering free Internet access, specialty cocktails, and a bar menu designed by in-house STK restaurant and Stolichnaya Vodka, the lounge-illuminated and furnished by Gandia Blasco-celebrated its closing Saturday evening with a reception and floating sculptures.

In addition to the five 5- by 5-foot sculptures that made up the floating installation "Amphibious," the lounge (which drew close to 700 guests throughout its three days) also gave guests the opportunity to view a select collection of works acquired by the Guggenheim Museum Young Collectors Council that were displayed across 15 flat-panel televisions throughout the space.
