1. STATE DINING TIPS: What should dinner guests expect on the menu at future State Department events? Well, new Secretary of State John Kerry hates celery and doesn't drink coffee. Washington Post: “He particularly enjoys scallops. ... You’ll also do well with lamb chops, sheperd’s pie, simple salad, clam chowder, chocolate desserts, ice cream. Apple juice, water, Zinfandel wine, Sauv Blanc." http://wapo.st/Ymf7zJ
2. PARTY DOWN: It could have been the effect of the blizzard shuffling the schedule, or just a reflection of the times, but Fashion Week felt calmer this year, insiders say. New York Times: "The consensus was that this Fashion Week (with notable absences on the party lineup) had been unusually sedate. 'We had too much of too much for too many years,' said Giovanna Battaglia, a stylist, who wore a Balenciaga top with netting that branzini could swim through. 'Instead of going so big, people want to be more intimate and reserved. It’s a natural swing.'” http://nyti.ms/XBKdGQ
3. WATER BREAK: Instead of focusing on his State of the Union rebuttal, people have been poking fun at Senator Marco Rubio's mid-speech sip of water. The awkward lunge for his water bottle was the talk of social media, and welcome news for Poland Spring, the company who received the primetime plug. Politico: "On Wednesday, the company posted a photo of one of its water bottles staring into a mirror lined with Broadway lights with the caption, 'Reflecting on our cameo. What a night!'” http://politi.co/12MiK99
4. CONDOM CAB UPDATE: Trojan had claimed it cleared the red tape for its condom-topped taxi promotion, but the New York Taxi and Limousine Commission claims it hasn't approved it, or even heard of it. Trojan ran afoul of city regulations this summer when it drew long lines for a vibrator giveaway. AdAge: "'Our legal department is in the process of reaching out directly to the appropriate people at the brand, and they'll be suitably notified that they would be at risk if they were to run afoul of our regulations,' said Allan Fromberg, deputy commissioner for public affairs at the TLC." http://bit.ly/12KhkvY
