Oakley's sponsored corps of athletes is usually found battling the elements in competition, whether on a dirt track, pounding surf, or mounds of snow. However, from March 17 to 19, they retreated to Miami Beach with company representatives to celebrate the launch of new sunglasses and performance fashions.
The event kicked off with an Oakley Women's media event at the Ritz-Carlton, South Beach on March 17 with a special tour through the Rolling O Lab, Oakley's own 42-foot bus used for test demonstrations of the eyewear performance.Immediately afterward, a fashion show for Oakley's first women-specific sports performance eyewear, Endure, was held in the Ritz's ballroom on a stage set up by Barton G. Oakley's women's brand director, Jenn Bradley, and world champion hurdler Lolo Jones presented designs for the show.
Following a break for lunch, the fashion show continued with models sporting outerwear from Gretchen Bleiler's new collection. After another presentation, athletes Bleiler, Jones, Katerina Nash, Leilani Gryde, Sage Erickson, and Nikki Garrett took to the stage to present the new Uniquely Women line of sunglasses.
For dinner, white tables draped in white linens were topped with blossoming yellow calla lily centerpieces. Food was served buffet-style by the hotel, with items such as grilled asparagus with grapefruit and basil mimosa, Yukon gold potatoes with arugula, roasted red pepper aioli and shaved Parma ham, and carved garlic and smoked paprika grilled flank steak. A separate station had a choice of soups including a South Beach conch chowder. To round out the feast, guests chose from treats such as mango bavarois, praline pot de crème, toasted coconut and milk chocolate gateau, and squares of caramelized key lime crème tarts. Afterward, guests relaxed on white club chairs and couches set up by Barton G. on the poolside terrace.
The three-day event included more fashion shows and activities including golf with pro golfer Garrett, and water sports and swimming off a private island.
To send everyone off in style, the closing party was held at the uber-exclusive Florida Room at the Delano Hotel with a special performance by Kelly James.
