Along with new high-rises and developments popping up along the downtown Miami and Brickell skylines are a new crop of lunchtime eateries that also provide catering. Here’s a look at two companies with various options for breakfast or lunch that deliver throughout the area.
1. First and First Southern Baking Company opened in April in downtown Miami, serving a mix of classic Southern dishes and deli fare. The eatery can cater in-office parties and meetings throughout Miami-Dade county, from downtown to Aventura. Among the 11 breakfast options are quiche, French toast, and eggs Benedict for $10 per person. Lunches are priced at $15 a person and include one of three small-plate appetizers plus a choice of 15 main dishes. Side items like potato salad, cornbread, and baked beans are available in small, medium, and large sizes for one to 10 people and are priced at $5, $9, and $11, respectively. For dessert, the bakery has 24 flavors of pies, cakes, pound cakes, and brownies; prices range from $8.50 for 13 brownies to $32 for a 10-inch cake that serves 18 people. Cookies are $6.50 per baker’s dozen. Free delivery is available for groups of 20 or more.
2. If you're looking for local cuisine, Half Moon Empanadas' new downtown location—the flagship is in Miami Beach—opened in May and has 19 varieties of the Spanish pastry, including spicy beef, smoked pancetta, and dulce de leche. To add a healthy spin, the company bakes the empanadas instead of frying them. Other menu items include coffee and fruit, egg, potato, or tuna salads. Empanadas are $21.99 per dozen, which serves three to five people. For larger groups, the company offers a dozen bite-sized pastries for $15.99, 50 for $65, or 100 for $125. The four dessert empanadas are $14.50 per dozen. Half Moon requires at least 24 hours notice for orders of 100 empanadas or more and offers complimentary delivery throughout downtown and Brickell for orders of $10 or more.
