VENUE: Go Tropical at Tiki Room

You don't have to take guests to the tropics to give them a little island flavor. Nightclub team Steve Steckel and Eddie Dean have just opened Tiki Room, a two-story, 2,700-square-foot bar and lounge designed by Nancy Mah (she did Lotus and Sushi Samba 7). Guests can even lounge in an actual giant tiki head. The hors d'oeuvres menu of so-called "vacation cuisine" from chef Richard Kleinman includes tiki gazpacho, coconut ginger salad and duck pastrami rolls. The space can accommodate as many as 300 guests, and rates start at $55 per person (for a minimum of two hours) for hors d'oeuvres and an open bar. --Suzanne Ito
