Tina Brown Still Loves Her Party

Posted 06.12.01
Talk editrix Tina Brown has called her magazine's launch party in the summer of 1999 one of the most important events of the end of the 20th century, according to Inside.com. She views the celeb-packed event as a triumph of free speech, coming after Mayor Giuliani wouldn't let her use the Brooklyn Navy Yard, leaving her with Liberty Island (he was predicting a Senate race against Talk cover girl Hillary Rodham Clinton). The remark came at an American Society of Magazine Editors' lunch last Thursday at the Harvard Club, during a speech the Talk-er insisted was off-the-record. A Talk flak says the remark was ironic, but Inside's witness disagrees.
