The Javits Center will soon be getting a new competitor for national trade shows and conferences. The Washington Convention Center is scheduled to open in March 2003 in the heart of Washington D.C. Currently under construction with a $799 million price tag, the new venue will have a total of 2.3 million square feet. That's bigger than Javits' 1.8 million square feet, but the New York venue's 814,400 square feet of exhibit and special event space is comparable to the new venue's more than 700,000 square feet of exhibit space and 125,000 square feet of meeting space. Let the race for big event business begin.
