Better allow some extra travel time when bringing guests to New York or heading to out-of-town events. Continuing cutbacks in business travel are forcing changes in the airline industry, according to The New York Times. Since the advent of discount fares for leisure travel through Web sites like Travelocity and Expedia, airlines have made up the difference in losses by making business travelers—"who had no choice but to take specific flights"—buy business travel tickets "six times as expensive as a discount ticket." Now businesses aren't putting up with it anymore, and are using the discount Web sites themselves to save on travel tickets, forcing the airlines to consider some drastic changes in service, which will affect business travelers the most, including "cutting flights and lengthening connection times at some hubs."
