Turnover at the Turntable

Booking a celebrity DJ has its risks. When we stopped by the opening party for new restaurant Cookshop on 10th Avenue, the DJ billed on the invitation—John Cameron Mitchell, the actor-writer-director best known for Hedwig and the Angry Inch—was nowhere to be found. Turns out he was running late while cutting his next film. So Stephen Winter—a film producer and, like Mitchell, a friend of co-owner Terry Savage—filled in on the decks until Mitchell arrived. We had no complaints about the music, and the party was fun—we’ll just point you toward these suggestions for choosing a DJ.
