This Week: Autumn Brings Benefits, Festivals

Coming down from the rush of Fashion Week, a stylish crowd heads to Cipriani 42nd Street tonight to support New Yorkers for Children, with chairmen and women that include Oscar de la Renta and Anna Wintour. This year Raul Avila is handling decor and Melissa Etheridge is performing. At Lincoln Center tonight, the New York Philharmonic celebrates opening night with a concert at Avery Fisher Hall and dinner at the Tent at Lincoln Center. Thursday, Cosmopolitan celebrates its 40th anniversary with a party at Skylight with decor by Colin Cowie and catering by Robbins Wolfe Eventeurs.. Also tomorrow, the Union Square Partnership rings in the first day of autumn with its Harvest in the Square tasting benefit. Warmer climates are the focus at Boylan Studios, where Club Med is promoting its properties in Morocco, Malaysia, Martinique, and Brazil. And Design Hotels promotes 137 international hotels with a party at Astra.

Friday, the New Yorker Festival kicks off with readings, performances, and interviews at venues all over town. The cultural goings-on continue through Sunday. And Friday night the New York Film Festival opens with screenings of Good Night, and Good Luck at Avery Fisher Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and the Walter Reade Theater, and a party at Tavern on the Green; the festival runs through October 9. The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation’s Race for the Cure comes to Central Park on Sunday.

On Monday Advertising Week (read our Q&A with executive director Matt Scheckner) kicks off its second year, including a procession of advertising icons from Times Square to Madison Avenue. An opening night party is at the United Nations. Conferences, seminars, and public events continue through next Friday. Self magazine celebrates the Self Center with a private event Monday; the wellness center opens Tuesday and operates through October 21 at 641 Fifth Avenue, a retail location they’re using for the month. Also Monday, Bee—a new women’s magazine devoted to finance and politics—launches with a party at Michael’s. On Tuesday, Time Out New York celebrates its 10th anniversary with its Eat Out tasting event at Skylight. Also Tuesday, Delta airline’s Sky magazine toasts its redesign at the Modern.
