American Express's buzzworthy U.S. Open promos, which took over the north end of Madison Square Park and part of the World Financial Center last year, met some opposition from residents near the park. "There were issues as far as the length of the event, noise, trash, and using park space for private promotion," David Siesko, vice chairman of Community Board 5, told The New York Times. The park's manager, the Madison Square Park Conservancy, will meet with the board and the Parks Department this week to address the grievances and reach an agreement before the promo reappears for this year's Open. One point to address: the size of the signs. Stewart Desmond, the conservancy's director of external affairs, believes "there will be fewer signs this year than last."
