Max Brenner is the latest big chocolate purveyor to open up digs in town (in fact, it’s the chocolatier’s first U.S. location). The new Union Square store and dessert den has cases of chocolates, pralines, and gift baskets—and you can enjoy chocolate creations like waffles, crepes, and sundaes (or savory options like panini and salads) in the cute, bistrolike atmosphere of the main dining room. (An upstairs dining area overlooks the main floor and can be closed off for events; it seats 40.) An East Village location is slated to open in September. —Mark Mavrigian
