The Whitney Museum of American Art is tinkering with the idea of a downtown museum and scrapping the expansion project (designed by Renzo Piano, architect of the Morgan Library & Museum’s recent addition) planned for its headquarters on the Upper East Side. The New York Times reported yesterday that the museum may expand to a site near the High Line; this comes a week after the Dia Art Foundation announced it would not go ahead with plans for a move next to the landmark railway and future park, and instead concentrate efforts on filling its currently empty directorial position.
