Rose Group Rebuts Permit Problems

Remember the Upper East Side church that we last reported as having problems with permit applications? Not so, says Louis Rose of the Rose Group, the company that will operate the space. According to Rose, not only are the renovations to 583 Park Avenue almost complete (and not far from approval by the relevant authorities), but the negative position of some locals is unjust. He argues that the company has taken several steps to ensure that the use of the venue as an event space will not be a headache for the neighborhood, including discussions with the Landmarks Preservation Commission, approaching the Department of Buildings early on, and being forthcoming with the community board.

"We have done a lot of things for the community to alleviate their concerns.... We want to get along with our neighbors," Rose said when we spoke to him this week. He also added that much of what has been done to the venue's interior is in keeping with the original 1923 style, right down to the bathrooms, a move that means more than just fixing a leaky roof. So planners will have another historic site to book after all.
