New Jersey to Get Two New Stadiums

By the end of next year, Northern New Jersey will be a destination for concertgoers and sports fans, after the Prudential Center (scheduled for October 2007) and Red Bull Park (slated for late 2008) open. The NHL's New Jersey Devils, the Seton Hall University men's basketball team, and the Major Indoor Soccer League's New Jersey Ironmen will play at the Prudential Center in Newark. Operator AEG plans to host at least 100 entertainment events there in the first year. A few blocks from Newark Penn Station, the 19,500-seat multipurpose facility will also have a 350-seat restaurant, two lounges, and luxury club suites.

Slightly north of that property will be Red Bull Park, the 25,000-seat stadium for New York's Major League Soccer team, in the Harrison MetroCenter. The 22-acre site is being developed for more than just sports—it will also have a stage and sound and lighting equipment suitable for open-air concerts and other entertainment events. (AEG is also managing this venue.) Event suites will be available for groups as large as 57, with a private entrance, private food service, and plasma screens.
