Sheridan Square Opens Today; Plans for Blue Smoke in Connecticut Announced

Gary Robins, the chef who earned praise for his work at the revamped Russian Tea Room and the Biltmore Room, opens his new West Village restaurant today. Sheridan Square, a "progressive American" eatery on Seventh Avenue South, features a wood-burning oven from which Robins serves dishes like whole red snapper and rosemary-crusted Australian rack of lamb. While there is no private room, there is banquette seating in the 65-seat main dining area, and in mid-June there will be room for 70 in the sidewalk café out front.

Also announced today are Union Square Hospitality Group's official plans to expand its restaurant empire outside of the city. Blue Smoke Chop House will be located in Greenwich, Connecticut, and will, like the Blue Smoke here, serve a menu of barbecued foods. The restaurant is slated to open in the first half of 2009.
