This morning, chef Geoffrey Zakarian announced that he is rebranding the second level of his restaurant Country. Scheduled to open this fall, Country Steak is to be a steak house with dishes designed to complement the European-Mediterranean fare served in the café and in the private rooms. Executive chef Willis Loughhead will head up the kitchen, and New York magazine has additional details on the menu.Another announcement is expected today at a cocktail party on the Empire Hotel’s rooftop. Foodie blogs and restaurant media are speculating that the event, hosted by restaurateur Jeffrey Chodorow and put together by KB Network News’s Karine Bakhoum and the Hall Company’s Steven Hall and Sam Firer, is to disclose officially the merger between Bakhoum and Hall’s respective PR agencies.

And over on the west side of Chelsea, Bungalow 8 owner Amy Sacco has closed her restaurant Bette. According to reports from Eater.com and New York magazine, the nightlife impresario shut the eatery, which opened in 2005, on Thursday.
