The plan to expand and renovate the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center is still very much in the works. On Tuesday, Governor David Paterson announced that the Empire State Development Corporation Board has approved the $463 million proposal to upgrade the exposition hall and add 40,000 square feet of exhibition space.
"The renovation will effectively address the Javits Center’s critical repair needs, and the modest expansion is at least a first step toward meeting the continuing demand for additional convention space,” said Mayor Michael Bloomberg in a press release.
Should the project be approved by New York state's Public Authority Control Board, the expansion could be completed by 2010, with the renovation finished in 2013.
