1. POP-UP CASINO PLANS: Plans for a pop-up casino at New Jersey's Meadowlands Sports complex in the week leading up to the 2014 Super Bowl may instead change to plans to try to permanently legalize gambling beyond Atlantic City. Tony Rodio, president of the Tropicana Casino and Resort and head of the Casino Association of New Jersey: "It's impossible to have something open for one week and be financially viable. You can't just throw up a tent and put slot machines in it. The amount of work and preparation that would go into it—you have to have your regulators in place, you have to have surveillance set up and installed. There's no way that would make sense financially." Rodio said he did not know of any Atlantic City casino operator who has expressed an interest in running a temporary casino at the Meadowlands. 2. REVENGE BY PARTY: After a messy lawsuit with his former employer, asset management firm TCW, investor Jeffrey Gundlach celebrated the third anniversary of his firing by throwing a party for his new firm—at the restaurant in TCW's office building. New York Magazine: "The party ran from two in the afternoon until past nine o'clock, and it seemed to have its intended effect: Over the course of the evening, many TCW employees on their way to the parking garage stopped in their tracks to gawk at the party going on inside. Some looked horrified; others laughed at Gundlach's audacity; a few even surreptitiously entered the restaurant to shake their old colleague's hand." http://nym.ag/SIHv0a
3. COKE'S SHOPPING SPREE: Coca-Cola has announced a partnership with HSN, licensing its merchandise as well as promoting HSN through its My Coke Rewards Web site. New York Times: "Plans call for merchandise and charitable campaigns for occasions like Valentine’s Day, he added, with broader seasonal efforts like picnic and beach items in the summer and products for football tailgate parties in the fall. … Coca-Cola and Playboy are considered to be the most prominent licensed brands outside the realms of sports and entertainment trademarks and characters like the National Football League and Mickey Mouse." http://nyti.ms/RcsIgd
4. LONGORIA LEADS INAUGURATION: President Obama named the top staff for his inauguration committee, with actress Eva Longoria as co-chairwoman, along with three others. All four living presidents are honorary co-chairmen. Politico: "The inaugural weekend will again kick off with a National Day of Service—a tradition that Obama started in 2009. As is traditional when an inauguration falls on a Sunday, Obama will be privately sworn in on Sunday—but will hold his public inauguration ceremony on Monday, January 21." http://politi.co/XvCz24

* ABOUT LAST NIGHT *
Art Basel events are well underway. Miami correspondent Tracy Block reports from two of her many stops Thursday, both at Soho Beach House: Diane von Furstenberg launched her signature DVF Evian bottle at a luncheon on the beach. Guests enjoyed lobster, lamb chops, and quinoa salad, along with endless Prosecco and DVF Evian. The party was produced by MKG Events, which provided the afternoon affair’s pillows, table accents, and a stunning glass logo display overlooking the ocean. That evening, Amfar hosted Inspiration Miami Beach, its first benefit during Art Basel Miami Beach. The evening included a social media art auction to raise money for AIDS awareness, in partnership with Artnet. Inside a tent, guests enjoyed meatballs and risotto from Cecconi’s, while sipping individual splits of Moet. The Dolls performed a live fusion of violin and electronica. Josh Wood Productions handled the event.
