May 10, 2013: Levis Gets Stadium Naming Rights, Pageant Won't Use Miss America Theme Song, Snoop Wants a Bob Marley Hologram

1. PAGEANT WON'T USE MISS AMERICA THEME SONG: The Miss America theme song used to serenade many a winner of the beauty pageant will not be heard this fall because of a lawsuit filed by the family of the songwriter Bernie Wayne. It was replaced by instrumental music in 2013. Press of Atlantic City: "This is not the first time the Waynes and the pageant organization have been at odds. The song was not used for three years in the early 1980s following a contract dispute, but it was brought back by popular demand in 1985." http://bit.ly/10okWTN

2. READY FOR A BOB MARLEY HOLOGRAM?: Snoop Dogg set off the hologram at Coachella last year when he performed with a hologram of deceased rapper Tupac Shakur. In a Twitter chat with Mashable, he said he wants to perform with a 3-D image of reggae icon Bob Marley. "[Snoop] also used the chat as an opportunity to promote his two new apps: The Reincarnated Track Notes app, which is a companion to his new album, as well as the Snoopify app for photo sharing." http://on.mash.to/195j6GB

3. STADIUM NAMING RIGHTS FOR LEVIS: The San Francisco 49ers announced that retailer Levi Strauss won naming rights to its stadium that will open next year. San Jose Mecury News: "Levi Strauss beat out 31 other interested companies from around the world—including three to five unnamed corporations that were in the final stages of negotiations. The iconic jeans company offered the most money, as well as proven financial success, including $4.6 billion in sales last year and a top credit rating, something lacked by a lot of the young Silicon Valley tech companies that were interested. The 49ers also highlighted the sentimental value of the deal, noting that Levi Strauss helped turn San Francisco into the world-class city it is today when it was founded in 1873 to clothe the original 49ers who came west seeking gold. The team also loved the short, clean feel of the Levi's Stadium name—though the 49er faithful are sure to debate that." http://bit.ly/10qXF3o
