The Whiskey inside the W New York - Times Square was packed wall-to-wall with magazine editors, musicians, models and other pretty young things reveling in their own hipness as YM magazine celebrated its third annual MTV issue. (The crowded party even required a line at the door for the press to get in, which didn't please some petulant reporters not used to waiting in line.)
The April issue's dual covers, featuring young musical It girls Pink and Shakira, were on display throughout the dark basement venue, on movie screen-sized projected images, on table display cards and actual copies of the magazine. While neither of the cover girls were scheduled to appear at the party, plenty of other MTV celebs were on hand, including new VJ Quddus, Ananda Lewis and boy band LMNT. DJ Cassidy set a fitting muscial vibe of hip-hop and 80's pop.
What drew the most attention from the crowd, however, was not the celeb quotient but the custom-made, airbrushed t-shirts and tank tops produced by Air Wear. Guests could have their names printed on the 80's-style shirts, along with cutesy graphics like hearts, palm trees or waves. The company made 200 shirts, which meant most of the party's 600 attendees had to make due with a cosmetics-laden gift bag at the end of the night.
