A small swarm of socialites and a few privileged pooches gathered at the Doubles Club for Tails & Tiaras, a dog-themed party to benefit the Flaherty Comparative Oncology Laboratory. The laboratory, part of the Animal Medical Center, is a cancer research center whose work benefits both dogs and people. (We half-expected Post gossip Cindy Adams and her dog Jazzy to prance in to promote her new book.)
Produced by Susan Bell Special Events, the event featured some canine-inspired touches like Sandicast's dog sculptures placed atop pieces of Astroturf on the dinner tables, and artist Shan Ichiyanagi took requests from guests for sculptures of their pets made from spun sugar. Guests who brought pics of their pooches received readings from pet psychic Cynthia Fellows (of Celestial Events), who "communicated" with the animals—they could be alive or deceased—to divine reasons behind behavioral problems like chewing on shoes or incessant barking.
To complete the event's Tails & Tiaras theme, event chairs Tina Flaherty, Wendy Carduner and Carroll Petrie wore tiaras—loans from Harry Winston—at the dinner.
