The Chocolate Bar enlisted the help of its bestseller—chocolate—to lure media to a press conference at Eugene. Lots of sweets were promised, and the sampling started early. Girls wearing orange Chocolate Bar T-shirts passed samples while store owners Matt Lewis and Alison Nelson discussed their new offerings (six flavors of chocolate bars being manufactured by New York chocolatiers Jacques Torres and Garrison Confections). Chef Ilene Shane introduced a signature treat she makes for the store—chocolate-dipped s'mores—and doled out samples.
Workhouse Publicity organized a party to celebrate the store's one-year anniversary following the conference with lots more chocolate. While guests snacked on brownies and truffles, servers passed chocolate martinis with Vermeer Dutch chocolate cream liqueur and samples of Brooklyn Brewery's chocolate stout. Tasting tables were lined with Chocolate Bar postcards for simple, inexpensive branding.
