Lots of art groups use nudity at their events, and the Art Students League of New York's benefit kept the skin showing. The school—which boasts alum like Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein, Madonna and Jackie Onassis—used nudes as decor and entertainment at its pre-construction party, which raised funds for the renovation and restoration of the school's building.
M.A.C.—who also painted the nudes at the New York Academy of Art's Take Home a Nude benefit and the caterwaiters, dancers and actors at the Cirque du Soleil premiere after-party)—provided makeup artists to cover nude models with re-creations of famous works of art, including works by Van Gogh and Matisse. Guests could sketch live models—the artists' kind, not the runway kind—who posed on a platform surrounded by easels and chairs. Clothed models sat for portrait paintings and drawings in another corner.
Organized by Abe Gurko of the Art Students League, the event raised $100,000 for the planned reconstruction.
