This weekend provides ample opportunity to check out what's happening in the art world, as the Armory Show, the International Fair of New Art opens its doors tomorrow at Pier 94. You can search for new ideas by roaming the giant expo, which features 150 galleries from around the world, with works created in a variety of media by more than 2,000 artists.
Highlights to this year's show include a site-specific, 100-foot-long wall installation by the artist known as Assume Vivid Astro Focus. Ronald Feldman Fine Arts will feature Eleanor Antin's "Loves of a Ballerina," a re-created movie-theater installation with silent films embedded into the sets. Also on display is Alex Bag's "Untitled (the Van)," a white Dodge van with a customized interior and video projections (first shown at the 2001 fair). The show starts tomorrow and ends Sunday; the companion exposition Volta NY is at 7 West 34th Street. And if all that isn't enough, competing contemporary art fairs this weekend include Scope at Lincoln Center and Pulse at Pier 40. (Oh, and for more art and ideas, don't forget that the Whitney Biennial, which started earlier this month, is on view at the museum through June 1.)
