January 26, 2016: Super Bowl Tickets Could Set Resale Record, Vatican Plans a Sports Conference, New York Weddings Continue Despite Blizzard

1. SUPER BOWL TICKETS COULD SET RESALE RECORD: Tickets for Super Bowl 50 could set a record in the resale market, with an average price for one ticket at $5,178, according to one analysis. CNN: "’This year's Super Bowl is on pace to not only be the most expensive Super Bowl, but the most expensive event, topping things like the Mayweather-Pacquiao boxing match and The Masters,’ said Chris Leyden, analyst with SeatGeek. … The game will be played in Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. That is the second largest market for tickets, with 10% of the purchases. Silicon Valley's money could be a major factor in driving ticket prices this year.” http://cnnmon.ie/1OKbsbX

2. VATICAN PLANS A SPORTS CONFERENCE: An invitation-only conference at the Vatican this fall will focus on sports, with a guest list that will mix athletes with religious and political leaders. Sports Business Journal: “With the help of two North American sports sponsorship and marketing companies [Lang Marketing and the Aspire Group], the Vatican is launching a multifaith sports conference in October called ‘Sports at the Service of Humanity.’ The three-day event will examine the role sports can play in society, from establishing relationships to helping promote health and wellness.” http://bit.ly/23nJA5l

3. NEW YORK WEDDINGS CONTINUE DESPITE BLIZZARD: Despite a travel ban and a blizzard of historic proportions, some couples stuck with their plans to get married on Saturday—thanks to venues that stayed open and vendors who made it possible. The New York Times: “The couple, who live in Brooklyn Heights, managed to hop into a minivan, arriving at Battery Gardens just before the traffic ban went into effect. By the time they walked in, the centerpieces were ready, the wedding canopy was almost up, and the cupcake tower — complete with vanilla, chocolate, carrot cake and red velvet — had arrived from Long Island.” http://nyti.ms/23qlzKJ
