Midtown's Stylish New Dream Hotel

Having undergone extensive renovations, the former Majestic Hotel has now opened as the Dream Hotel. The funky new spaces include superstar designer David Rockwell’s Fellini-inspired interiors for the property’s in-house Serafina restaurant. The hotel also includes Subconscious bar, which is a series of cavernous rooms with enough space for 350 (and opens on Halloween), and Conscious, which is decorated with a wild array of colorful stripes and can hold 200. There is also an unnamed bar designed by Mark Zeff that has surreal forest scenes wrapping its walls. And atop the hotel, Ava Lounge remains. A wellness center from holistic health guru Deepak Chopra is slated to open in January 2005. —Mark Mavrigian
