Edison Lights Up Downtown

E72611 152
Jumping on the downtown renaissance, Andrew Meieran and Marc Smith teamed up to create the Edison, a multistory nightclub and event space that contrasts the old and the new, marrying Art Deco details with modern-day aesthetics and industrial-age machines with state-of-art technology. In the basement of the historic Higgins Building, which was built in 1906, the 14,000-square-foot space is a combination of bars, alcoves, secluded rooms, and lounges. The bar menu celebrates the cocktail culture of yesteryear, and Hollywood’s early years are featured in projections of silent films; the space also has a retractable stage for live entertainment. Smaller rooms—like the game room, with a private billiard table—hold six to 30 people. The Lab holds 150, and the main bar, outfitted in copper, mahogany, and industrial accents, holds 150. There’s a small dance floor and DJ booth, plus a jukebox for low-key nights. The entire space holds 400 for receptions. —Lesley Balla
