It’s not easy to find Abode Restaurant &
Lounge, but that’s half its appeal. Just steps from the Santa Monica pier sign, tucked behind Tengu along Ocean Avenue, and through a gate, strings of twinkle lights crisscross
an outdoor patio. Big glass doors open to walls of polished travertine, mod
light fixtures, burnt-orange-colored high-backed chairs and chocolate-brown
leather booths. A few stools, tall banquettes, and comfortable low-slung chairs
fill the lounge. A private room can be curtained off and has its own patio
doors; it holds 30 for seated events.
Owners Anastasia Israel and Kelly Gleason owned Anastasia’s Asylum for 15 years, and with design help from Franklin Studios, they have created a mature space with the same bohemian aesthetic. Executive chef Dominique Crenn tailors her menu to the seasons, offering fresh farmers market finds alongside Kobe steak and short ribs, John Dory, and pork osso buco. Her study in chocolate dessert is a work of art. The bar holds 20, the main dining room holds 80, and the patio holds 40.
