Worth the Flight
Events will take off at the aviation-themed Fly Lounge. Open since May 2006, the intimate space can hold 150 and was modeled after the fuselage of an aircraft—complete with aluminum walls, porthole windows featuring drifting clouds on flat-screen monitors, and cocktail waitresses in stewardess uniforms. The bilevel venue has two bars, or guests can enjoy bottle service at one of eight cocktail tables made from jet engines modeled on the afterburner of an F15 Eagle.
Contemporary Cocktails
Stylish professionals flock to K Street Lounge after work and on weekends, making the futuristic space one of the busiest nightspots in D.C. Open since August 2005, the 5,000-square-foot lounge holds 500; a semiprivate area can accommodate 100. Looking for some high-tech decor? K Street’s cocktail tables are embedded with LCD screens ready to flash logos or marketing messages.
Checking In
District scenesters looking for live music in the city found a new destination when Rock and Roll Hotel, a hotel-themed nightclub, opened its doors last August. The venue can accommodate 400 and is decorated with vintage chandeliers and ornate mirrors. In addition to a concert hall that often hosts live acts, the club has two party suites that can hold 40 and 20.
Hit the Road
Go straight from the exhibit floor to the dance floor at high-style lounge Avenue, located just one block from the convention center. Open since April 2005, Avenue is a 12,500-square-foot, four-level nightclub that can accommodate 1,500. Marble bars, brick walls, and 18-foot ceilings create an airy, loftlike environment, and two private lounges are available for smaller groups.
