Since April 2007, the venerable New Yorker Hotel has been undergoing a $65 million renovation, and now the project is finally coming to a close as the historic property's management team adds some finishing touches over the next few weeks. Key focal points of the refurbishment include restoring the original Art Deco style of the hotel's storied past as well as revitalizing the facilities available to meeting planners and business travelers.

In addition to upgrading the amenities in each of the hotel's 912 guest rooms and redesigning the lobby, the overhaul includes cosmetic enhancements to 25,000 square feet of meeting space, and improvements to lighting, in-house services, and programs for events, conferences, and trade shows. The project also includes expanding free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and additional bandwidth to allow for speedier Internet access.

Located across the street from Penn Station and only three blocks east of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center—a fact the hotel wants to underscore—the Midtown site offers several rooms, including its 7,500-square-foot grand ballroom with 30-foot ceilings and space for 450 seated theater-style. For smaller gatherings, there are the 3,250-square-foot Crystal Ballroom, an adjoining foyer, four connected conference suites on the third floor, and another seven on the floor above.

Manhattan Center Studios (where the Hammerstein Ballroom is housed) is the New Yorker Hotel's neighboring venue, and, as it is owned by the same management company, planners have access to some of its audiovisual equipment and on-site technicians.
