This week, as retailers and designers focused on menswear shows like Capsule New York and the Collective, news about other upcoming fashion industry events rolled in. The biggest topic of discussion is the partnership between M.A.C. Cosmetics and Milk Studios to host shows during September Fashion Week. Several spaces at the west 15th Street venue—including the ground-level gallery—will be used for runway events and presentations from designers such as Erin Fetherston, Temperley London, Peter Som, Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler, and Vena Cava. In this venture, Milk Studios and the Estée Lauder-owned makeup company, which had previously sponsored IMG Fashion's lineup at Bryant Park, will provide the facility free of charge.
Also set for September is a pop-up store from designer Rachel Roy, according to WWD. Slated to open on Thursday, September 10—the official start of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and Fashion's Night Out—the small shop will be on Spring Street and sell items from the designer's new collection. Estelle is expected to perform on the night the store opens, and other marketing initiatives include serving free ice cream outside.
In other news for clothing retailers, Designers & Agents canceled its August Resort show. The showcase, which has previously taken place in the studios at the Starrett-Lehigh Building, was originally scheduled for Sunday August 2 through to Tuesday, August 4. The independent trade show organizer will still produce the D&A show in Los Angeles on Friday, August 7 through Sunday, August 9.
