34th Annual Rammys
The Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington's 34th annual Rammys award show took place June 12 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. OM Media provided an oversize TV frame as the staging for its photo booth at the Heineken activation. Guests could then post the photos directly to social media or email the pictures to themselves.

The latest edition of the Electronic Entertainment Expo took place June 14-16 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Underground bunkers were a popular theme: The movie 10 Cloverfield Lane set up an exhibit meant to look like the inside of a dated bunker, complete with board games, a TV, patterned sofas, and kitchen cupboard items.

An elderflower champagne cocktail with an edible flower garnish in crystal coupe glasses, accompanied by a large crystal punch bowl on a vintage gold bar cart, was presented at the Toast the Trends event hosted by the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago and bridal company Elaya Vaughn by Kate Pankoke in September.

“Modern geometric metallics are exploding in social event decor right now,” says event planner and stylist Ginger Dockery of Gingerwood Creative in Washington. “We’re seeing this motif as a popular way for couples to incorporate an on-trend element into classic celebrations. These are especially being shown in combination with soft elements to contrast the hard lines.”

“I thought the root system of the haworthia (pictured, right) looked dramatic, especially because the succulent itself has a harder texture, so it was important to show both sides,” says Matthew Schechter, event and creative director of Interior Foliage Design in Long Island City, New York.

An arrangement in a glass planter was made with four ingredients—Picasso lilies, lavender scabiosa, and Blue Thistle in a curly willow wrap. “I really dig this because you don’t need to be blinded by 100 flowers to make an impression,” Schechter says.

Instead of over-the-top decor, New York-based event designer Jes Gordon used subtle silver trophies as vases for a sports-theme bar mitzvah.

Airport Food & Beverage Conference
The sixth annual Airport Food & Beverage Conference took place June 21-23 at the Toronto Pearson International Airport. During the event, New York-based airport hospitality company OTG hosted a “farm-to-terminal” gala dinner that featured table-length centerpieces created with seasonal, local produce. The event was designed by Candice & Alison.

Marriott’s Shark Week Cocktails
To celebrate Shark Week in July, the New York Marriott Marquis, Washington Marriott Wardman Park, Washington Marriott Georgetown, and the Skiff Bar at Newport Marriott in Rhode Island served guests a variety of shark-theme cocktails, including a Blood in the Water martini that was garnished with a gummy shark.

Chandon's American Summer Fête
For events that are themed after geographic locations, wooden signs can be an easy way to showcase that theme to guests. At Chandon's limited-edition bottle launch in 2016, Wooden signs pointing to Napa Valley and France paid homage to Chandon's current home and origins. The event, which took place on the High Line in New York, was designed by Ignition Inc.
