We've always thought that there's no accessory more stylish than a glass of bubbly. So we scuttled over to Moet & Chandon's Fashion Statement event, a showcase for new African-American fashion designers at Metronome.
The event was part of a 10-city tour co-sponsored by Honey magazine, which passed out its latest issue.
Nancy Northern, brand manager at Moet, welcomed a young, stylish, mostly African-American crowd to the event, and introduced its host, fashion expert Lloyd Boston. Boston then walked with the crowd through both rooms of the high-ceilinged restaurant to view looks from labels including FUBU, Sean John and Lafayette 148.
The women in the crowd grew especially responsive when one of the male Sean John models--the muscular one without a shirt, naturally--stepped forward on a stage above the main bar. The event was coordinated by Moet's marketing agency, Creative Solutions Plus, which hired MTL Productions to help with event production.
The food, catered by the Mediterranean and Italian restaurant, included crab cakes, seared scallops and chicken samosas. The large array of desserts--including cookies and delicious chocolate-covered strawberries--seemed a bit odd at a night devoted to fashion. But not to Bernadette Weeks, president of Creative Solutions Plus. "Food is art," she told us. "Fashion is art." We'll drink to that.
