Candied Apples Go Big

Here's a new twist on an autumn tradition: candied apples, reborn as gourmet desserts heaped with dried fruit and nuts, and swathed in chocolate and caramel. Affy Tapple makes the oversized apples--which can serve about 10 people--in a variety of types and styles, including apples with tiny Halloween, Christmas or Hanukkah decorations. The company can also create customized apples to match the theme of a gift basket or event. (Or how about using one as a centerpiece-cum-dessert?) Sold under the company's Mrs. Prindable's brand, the apples are shipped on the same day they're made, but Affy Tapple needs a week to prepare for a small order; custom-decorated gifts in large volumes must be ordered a few months ahead during the Christmas season. --Samantha Melamed
