The Young Fellows of the Frick Collection’s annual benefit at the museum promised a celebration of all things male with this year's Men’s Club theme. The benefit, co-sponsored by Carolina Herrera, evoked the post-war nightclub era, complete with comfort food and a cigar bar. The event was coordinated by Sarah Milestone, the museum’s manager of special events.
Kevin Krier & Associates transformed the Frick into an elegant gentlemen’s club. Guests entered the Garden Court through draped brown and white striped fabric custom-made for the event by Carolina Herrera. Fashion types and socialites sipped Moët & Chandon champagne and mingled in the Garden Court by the fountain, which was filled with floating gardenias and white votive candles. The flickering candles illuminated the palm frond-filled court and cast playful shadows on the arched ceilings.
Glorious Food extended the manly theme with hearty fare such as beef sirloin and lamb at the carving station, and comfort food-style hors d’oeuvres like chicken hash, crab cakes, bite-size cheesecake and brownies.
The circular Music Room was lined with the same vertical striped fabric featured at the event’s entrance. Two large sculptured shrubs flanked the DJ platform, and the lights that lined the bottom edge of the domed ceiling alternated between red, orange and yellow, softening the masculine design elements of the room. DJ Javier Peral blasted Beyoncé and Justin Timberlake while guests packed the dance floor. Others watched from the perimeter, nestled around round tables adorned with votive candles and carnation-filled julep glasses.
The most boisterous guests congregated at a cigar bar, set up in the garden. Party-goers clamored into the tented and heated (though still chilly) portico, puffing cigars provided by Zino Platinum. The combination of alcohol, nicotine and fresh air seemed to energize the crowd, whose unruly laughter and conversation floated out over Mr. Frick’s set-back garden until the benefit ended promptly at midnight. —Sara Neuffer
