New York City Opera's Opening Night Gala
Submitted by Bowen & Company
For the gala performance of Richard Strauss' Capriccio, Bowen & Company looked to the opera's tale—the story of a countess wooed by a poet and a composer—for inspiration. Table decor referenced the storyline—with centerpieces designed by David Stark that incorporated sheet music and elegantly penned love letters created by calligrapher Bernard Maisner. To add a personal element and to honor artistic director Paul Kellogg's decade of leadership, Bowen & Company located a photograph of Strauss backstage with the production's first countess, signed by the singer.

JCPenney's Random Acts of Politeness Event
Submitted by T & L Events Inc.
Outfitted in Nick Graham's Nick(it) line of suits from JCPenney, dapper models from T&L Events Inc. took to city streets during last September's Fashion Week to hail cabs, offer shade with umbrellas, and provide other chivalrous tasks for the assembled throng. The air of good manners helped reinforce a British sensibility and while the suits' styling caught the eye of fashion editors and people around town many were met with a kind deed.

Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Ball
Submitted by David E. Monn, LLC
Inspired by the Costume Institute's Chanel exhibition, David Monn designed a French garden for this exclusive benefit that is often called the "party of the year." An avenue of 20-foot-tall flowering trees flanked the red carpet in the Met's Great Hall, and in the Engelhard Court, floors were covered with sea grass carpeting. Boxwood topiaries lined the space, and cypress trees edged the room's columns. Dinner tables were outfitted with white linen placed over green burlap linens, and chairs culled from Bryant Park served as garden-appropriate seating covered with white linen cushions.
