The set may not have been as grand in scale as others during Fashion Week, but Thursday evening's show at Gotham Hall for Cynthia Rowley's fall 2008 collection was a creative and playful take on the inspiration behind the clothes. As expressed in the program, the collection focused on silhouettes and the "charm of delicate pop-up books that were popular during Victorian times," and so the runway backdrop was just that—silhouettes that popped up.
Inside a white box at the entrance to the runway, wooden tree-shaped pieces painted blue and black created a shadowy, forest-like set through which the models emerged from backstage; the front wall of the box fell open with a dramatic bang to reveal the decor inside for the start of the show.Front-row celebrities included Parker Posey, Alan Cumming, Tatum O'Neal, and Aisha Tyler, as well as Kim Raver and Lindsay Price from the new NBC show Lipstick Jungle.

Before the show started, the set consisted of nothing more than a white box at the end of the runway.

Popping up from inside the box, wooden tree silhouettes, a brown path, and even a deer-shaped piece mimicked some of the colors and shapes of the dresses in Rowley's collection.
